Profile
Dr Rebecca Young is an experienced and certified Urogynaecologist and pelvic reconstructive surgeon. She undertook her obstetrics and gynaecology training at Royal North Shore Hospital before completing advanced gynaecological and laparoscopic training at Westmead Hospital and has been awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). She subsequently undertook subspecialty training with a Fellowship in Urogynaecology at Gold Coast University Hospital (Robina and Varsity Lakes) in Queensland and St George Pelvic Floor Unit in Sydney. Rebecca enjoys teaching medical students as well as junior doctors and is a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at UNSW. She is actively involved with research in Urogynaecology and has publications in international journals.
Dr Young believes in getting to know her patients and their goals, as well as performing a careful assessment prior to any treatment. She tailors treatment to the individual and offers a full range of conservative, medical as well as surgical treatment options. Her training allows her to offer all modalities of surgical intervention including minimally invasive laparoscopic and vaginal surgery. She can also offer vNOTES hysterectomy where appropriate.
Rebecca lives and works on the North Shore of Sydney. She enjoys lap swimming and volunteers as a Surf Lifesaver with North Narrabeen surf lifesaving club.
Dr Young has specific interest in the following areas:
- Prolapse recurrence
- Management of mesh complications
- Bladder pain syndrome / interstitial cystitis
- Stress incontinence
Research
Dr Young is actively involved in research in Urogynaecology and has publications in international journals. She has multiple publications and ongoing research into the prevention and management of obstetric related trauma, and an interest in how the longterm impacts of obstetric trauma can be avoided. She has ongoing research into the treatment of overactive bladder with the use of TTNS (transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation).
